Welcome!
About Me...
My name is Martha Burian. I live in Sedalia, Missouri with my husband, my daughters, and our dog, Skyla. Although I lived in Pennsylvania for most of my life, I love the culture of the community in Missouri.
In 2015, I began teaching art in Marshall, Missouri, home of the owls. They took me under their wing, and I became part of their student-focused education community as the art teacher at Bueker Middle School. I teach students in grades 5-8. Middle school students are often a wonderful blend of youthful excitement and enthusiasm mixed with a mature outlook and focus. I enjoy building upon their art knowledge base and teaching new skills and concepts.
I grew up in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. Throughout my childhood, my parents encouraged my love of art. I always loved drawing, painting, and crafts. During my first year in college, I studied Interior Design at Philadelphia University. Although I loved design, I decided I wanted a career with deeper meaning and significance. I spent my last three years of college at Kutztown University in the Art Education major. I found my calling! In college, I strived for excellence in both my academics and extracurricular involvement. I completed my student teaching at both the elementary and secondary levels. At the secondary level, I student taught in a high school ceramics and drawing class.
After graduating, I married Kyle and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to begin my career as an art teacher. I had the opportunity to teach art at Ries Elementary for five years. I absolutely loved being part of this positive, student centered environment. I was inspired by so many caring and devoted teachers. With my guidance, the students gained an understanding of the importance of art and explored art making in a positive, creativity-driven environment. During the years, I left my mark throughout the building by installing several tile murals and framed art in the hallways and multipurpose room.
Much of this portfolio highlights the lessons, classroom management practices, and artwork created while I was teaching at Ries Elementary and Bueker Middle School. My professional work and hobbies are also highlighted.
